2007 Artadi "Viñas de Gain" Rioja Tempranillo
One 750ml bottle
Respecting the local winemaking traditions inherited from his grandfather and safeguarding the old-vine Tempranillo indigenous to his native Laguardia in Rioja Alavesa, Juan Carlos López de la Calle cultivates the individual “personalities” of his different vineyard blocks to create Viñas de Gain. A wine that clearly demonstrates the potential, quality and balance of a great Rioja, it is brilliant cherry-red in color and has fresh aromas of red fruit and blackberries, integrated with black licorice and notes of toasted exotic wood. The palate is structured with fine, elegant and persistent tannins that lead to a long and creamy finish.
Located in Rioja Alavesa, at one of the highest points in Spain, the vineyard blocks that contribute to this wine surround the medieval village of Laguardia, at an altitude of 1,890 feet. In a climate moderately influenced by the Atlantic Ocean and protected by the strong, cool winds of the northerly Sierra Cantabria mountain range, the vines that go into making Viñas de Gain grow in sandy, clay and calcium-rich alluvial soils.
