2007 Renteria Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

This Cabernet is a blend of grapes from two very different Napa Valley vineyards that complement each other well. The Steltzner Vineyard in Stags Leap produces a very pretty, elegant wine with dark fruit aromas, soft, velvety tannins, and an abundance of acidity. The Shooting Star Vineyard in Pope Valley produces a much firmer wine with big, bold tannins and raspberry, herbal aromatics. The resulting wines have a rich depth of aromas, both from the fruit and barrel aging, and a full but soft palate with concentrated flavors. 
 
The Steltzner Vineyard is in the Stags Leap District, and was planted in 1996 (clone 7 on 1103P rootstock). Often called a valley within the Napa Valley, the Stags Leap District is influenced by cool evening breezes from the San Pablo bay and rocky volcanic tufa soils. Combined with the eastern exposure this is an ideal place for growing grapes. The Steltzner family has been farming this land since 1965. 
 
The Shooting Star Vineyard in Pope Valley was planted in 1997 (clone 337 on 3309 rootstock) and grows in pleasant loam soils that are well drained, have tannins that give the wine depth and finesse, and soften the wine, bringing out its elegance, and making the wine drinkable at an early age. The warmer microclimate of the Shooting Star Vineyard adds to the wine’s concentration and extraction and results in a luscious rich Cabernet Sauvignon.
