2007 John Duval "Entity" Barossa Valley Shiraz

An intense Barossa Valley Shiraz from critic's darling John Duval Wines. His "Entity" Series features 100% Shiraz from old-vine sources in the Stockwell, Light Pass, Krondorf and Marananga sub-regions of the Barossa Valley. The aim is to produce a wine true to the Barossa Valley, the Shiraz variety and the vagaries of vintage. Great fruit intensity and fine tannin structure, with predominantly French oak chosen to compliment the ripe blackberry and blueberry fruit. Impressive aging potential.
While the aim with "Entity" is to produce a wine true to the Barossa, variety and vintage, 2007 was a challenge, with ongoing drought conditions and frost effects reducing yields and resulting in a very early start to vintage. The first Shiraz was picked on the 9th of February- nearly three weeks earlier than average but finished by the middle of March.
The '07 vintage of "Entity" is a well structured wine comprised of good concentration of pure Barossa dark fruit. A true reflection of Barossa’s soil and climate, this wine displays youthful dark fruits of blackberry, plum and savory French oak aromas. Its palate is rich and generous, with concentrated dark fruit and fine, ripe tannins. The finish is elegant and carries through with excellent fruit intensity. Traditional winemaking practices and seventeen months in French oak barriques will ensure the age worthiness of this third release.

Winemaker Notes
Winemaking: Fermentation with submerged cap in both traditional old open tanks and small stainless steel fermenters.
Oak Maturation: 100% barrel maturation for 18 months with 30% new fine grain French oak and the balance 2, 3 and 4 year-old French and American oak hogsheads (300 1itres). Some batches finished fermentation in new barrels
