2005 Urraca "Primera" Mendoza Red Blend
One 750ml bottle
Urraca's wines are all estate-grown single-vineyard wines using only the finest, hand-harvested Argentinean grapes. Mendoza is the most renowned wine growing region in Argentina, known for its perfect combination of soil and altitude. The area produces small grapes with concentrated flavor, color and tannins. The 3000 foot elevation of Urraca's 117 acre vineyard located at the base of the Andes provides warm temperatures during the day and cool temperatures at night, resulting in a long and dry growing season. All wines are barrel-aged in a mixture of new and once-used American and French oak barrels.
This Mendoza Malbec (with 30% Merlot) is intriguing and satisfying. A true bouquet delivers spice, cinnamon stick and floral fruit. Aromas of cassis, blueberry and blackberry jump from the glass. On the palate it is medium to full-bodied, layered, savory and dense. Finishes long and pure with woodspice and pepper coming in strong.
