2007 Peterson Il Granaio Dry Creek Valley Sangiovese
One 750ml bottle
Positively seductive aromas of deep rich dark cherry and berry mingle with spicy cedar and a hint of leather. Full-flavored with nice acidity, this beautifully balanced wine is bursting with layers of spicy berry, cedar, earthiness and a touch of dark chocolate and orange zest. The intriguing blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet offers both brawn and beauty. Though youthful and appealing now, try to cellar a few bottles, or cases, and enjoy this seductress as age refines and polishes her edges.
Vineyards:
Teldeschi Vineyard: In the early 1990’s, long time Dry Creek Valley grapegrower Ray Teldeschi got Sangiovese budwood from me off Norton Ranch. Ray planted the vines on his “Home Ranch”, which is next door to our winery on the eastern Dry Creek bench. Sitting above the valley floor with a Southwest exposure, this vineyard site is perfectly suited for the finicky Sangiovese grape.
Enos Vineyard: Nestled in the Southwestern hills of Dry Creek Valley lies this five-acre vineyard. 60% of the block was planted in 1972 on St. George rootstock, and the other section was planted in 2001 on 110R rootstock. Managed in 2007 by longtime Dry Creek Valley grapegrower Ray Teldeschi, and farmed to standards set by us and vineyard owner Jason Enos, this vineyard produces a small crop of intensely flavored and balanced Cabernet Sauvignon grapes for which the western hills of Dry Creek Valley are renowned.
