2008 La Follette Van Der Kamp Vineyard Sonoma Mountain Pinot Noir

750ml wine bottle 750ml wine bottle

The van der Kamp family has been tending the vines from this north-facing vineyard, the crown jewel of Sonoma Mountain, for over four decades. At 1400 ft. elevation, the ranch overlooks the valley and the hamlet of Kenwood. The patchwork of soil types includes loam with volcanic material and decomposed river bed. Six different clones of Pinot thrive here, with the oldest plantings dating from the early 1960s. Cared for with organic treatments, including some dry-farmed blocks, the vineyard sits next to the family home, fruit orchard, goat pen and vegetable garden.

Mulberry, horehound, wintergreen and lapsang souchong on the nose lead to a surprisingly voluptuous mid-palate of forest floor, berry basket and brown spices, pine duff and touch of leather in late-palate, cinched by orange bitters. Tannins are a strong backbone throughout with a spectrum of fruit showing raspberry on entry to blackberry on finish. This wine is perfect for cellar aging.
