The grape-growing region of the Sonoma Coast begins at the mouth of San Pablo Bay and follows the Pacific Ocean to the northern-most reaches of Sonoma County. Known for its cool climes and heavy winter rainfall, this enigmatic region can yield wines of great natural tannin/acid structure. The indigenous yeast strains struggle through primary fermentations, but in doing so create finer texture, more expressive aromatics and flavors, and the body that fits between the tannins and acidity.

This wine is handcrafted to display the characteristics that Sonoma Coast Pinot is known for: effortless tannins, racy acidity and the complexity of this region’s wild yeast fermentations. Every year LaFollette strives to create the best appellation Pinot possible, choosing elements from our cellar that they feel will complement each other to create a wine greater than the sum of its parts. Early in the maturation process, winemakers begin to identify certain characteristics that they are looking to include in the blend: a group of barrels that heighten fruitiness, a particular clone that lends spiciness, or a lot that provides smooth, seamless tannins. The winemaker then bench trials several iterations of the potential blend before actually beginning the blending process in the cellar. The result is a wine with many layers, made to be enjoyed in its youth, but one that will appreciate short-term cellaring.
