2006 Michel-Schlumberger "Le Sage" Dry Creek Valley Merlot
One 750ml bottle
"Find the hidden word. Merganzer. Mercantile. Mercy. Merlot. Merit. Mermaid. What am I talking about? I don't know. It seemed cool when I started it, but now it just sounds silly. We can be silly here at Michel-Schlumberger, but as most of you know, we take our winegrowing / winemaking very seriously. In 2006 the Merlot blocks were the most balanced I've ever seen in Merlot. Fruit architecture was near perfect. Vine canopy grew to eighteen to twenty leaves and stopped.
The Fall days were perfect for Merlot. Cool nights, warm days. Nice and slow. What this leads to is a Merlot that is extracted, but still light on the palate with the classic dried flower/violet that is usually reserved for fine wines from Bordeaux. I'm pleased and proud of this wine. Sometimes Merlot gets a bad rap, but anyone who tastes this wine will agree that it's a special wine. Enjoy and please recycle the glass when finished.
