The Vintage: The growing season in 2007 was picture perfect. The dry, warm spring weather was a great beginning to the year. With a good fruit set, mild summer weather and no extreme temperature shifts, the fruit developed in ideal conditions through October. One small lot was harvested on September 29, 2007 but the majority of Cabernet Sauvignon fruit was harvested into late October.

The Wine: The Reserve Cabernet program was started at Whitehall Lane Winery in 1984. Since that time, fruit primarily from the Rutherford and St. Helena appellations has been designated for the ‘Reserve’ program. The 2007 is a blend primarily from the winery’s Fawn Park, Millennium MM and Leonardini vineyards. The wine was aged in 80% French and 20% American oak barrels for 25 months and was bottled in December 2009.

Tasting Notes: The 2007 vintage is a big, ripe cabernet sauvignon. It balances the deep flavors of cassis, black berry and raspberry with the chewy, ripe tannins and sweet toasty oak. The Malbec and Petite Verdot were added to the blend for complexity and flavor nuances.
