Viansa Winery & Vineyards
Ideally situated on a hilltop at the entrance to the legendary Sonoma Valley, Viansa Winery naturally embodies the proud history of local winemaking. The Viansa family has embraced Sonoma's Italian heritage by focusing on producing Italian varietal wines and pairing them with authentic, Italian-inspired fare.
Viansa Winery, with its distinctive Italian atmosphere and charming Old World architecture, is a tribute to the Italian immigrants who settled in Sonoma Valley in the early 1900's. Surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, and modeled after the charming, centuries-old villas that dot the Tuscan landscape, the main winery building looks as if it was magically transported from the Italian countryside. Painstakingly crafted from authentic materials, and boasting signature details like hand-painted interior frescoes and classic statuary, the Viansa Villa has the power to whisk visitors away to romantic Italy – if only for an hour or two.
- Tasting Room: In the Italian spirit of enjoying wine with food, Viansa’s tasting room is also a marketplace featuring hundreds of foods to pair with their wines, using fresh, local ingredients and timeless Italian recipes.
- Vineyards: The climate in Viansa’s vineyards share many qualities with Alto-Adige, Tuscany, and other winegrape growing regions of central and northern Italy.
- Accolades: The ’05 Thalia Sangiovese won Double Gold and Best of Class in several wine competitions; their ’06 Prindelo won the Gold Medal in the 2009 Orange County Wine Competition.
- Leadership: Financier Lloyd W. Davis was asked to help acquire Viansa in 2005 and became part owner and president in January 2008.
- Wetlands: Viansa is a committed steward of the environment and spearheaded a substantial coastal wetlands restoration effort; more than 170 species of birds and many native plants now thrive there.
