L'Aventure Winery

L'Aventure Winery

Founded by Stephan Asseo in the hills near Paso Robles, California, L'Aventure is famed for their great, balanced red blends. The blending of premium varietals increases the authenticity, complexity, and balance of the wines.

Stephan Asseo, owner and winemaker at L'Aventure Winery, began making wine in 1982, following his education at L'Ecole Oenologique de Macon, Burgundy, France.

The spirit of L'Aventure is most evident in Stephan's "Paso blends", such as Optimus and Estate Cuvée. Both wines are Cabernet Sauvignon /Syrah blends. In these wines, as well as in our Rhône blend Côte à Côte, the blending of premium varietals increases the authenticity, complexity, and balance of the wines. In this adventurous spirit, we find the future of Paso Robles wines…great, balanced red blends.

  • Vineyard: Owner and winemaker Stephen Asseo uses high density planting (2,100 vines per acre), a meticulous regimen of leaf pulling, shoot thinning, and cluster dropping to achieve two to two and a half tons per acre.
  • Yields: L’Aventure’s yields are remarkable, resulting in one bottle of wine per vine.
  • Terroir: The site for the vineyard, on the west side of Paso Robles, was selected after an extensive study of the area that matched Stephan’s experience as a vigneron.
  • Varietals: The varietals planted are Syrah 36%, Cabernet Sauvignon 36%, Petit Verdot 9%, Mourvèdre 9%, plus some 3 acres of Roussanne and Viognier.
  • Mural:The facade of L’Aventure winery features a mural by acclaimed French artist Erwin Dazelle.
