Gundlach Bundschu
Founded in 1858, Gundlach Bundschu is California’s oldest family run winery. Currently run by the sixth generation of the Bundschu family, the historic California winery focuses on making small lots of single vineyard, estate-grown, ultra-premium wines from its sustainably farmed vineyard in southern Sonoma Valley.
Gundlach Bundschu is located at the crossroads of Sonoma Valley, Carneros and Napa Valley appellations and tucked into the base of the Mayacamas Mountain Range. The family meticulously farms its steep hillsides to produce world-class Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot wines, while blocks on the cool clay soil of the valley floor are ideally suited for limited production Pinot Noir, Gewurztraminer and Chardonnay.
After more than 150 years, Gundlach Bundschu remains focused on the future—approaching its vineyards, wine and world with spirit, creativity and dedication to excellence. Gundlach Bundschu is open daily from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Origins: On March 12, 1858, Jacob Gundlach purchased 400 acres in Sonoma and christened it Rhinefarm; he was soon joined by his son-in-law Charles Bundschu.
- Green: The 320-acre vineyard is sustainably farmed, the winery recycles waste water and uses solar power, including Sonoma’s first floating solar array.
- Merlot: Gundlach Bundschu is one of the first wineries in California to produce a varietal Merlot.
- Estate: All Gundlach Bundschu wines are estate grown on 60 distinct blocks on the hillside and valley floor, ranging from 50 to 400 feet elevation.
