Chamisal Vineyards

The historic Chamisal vineyard, the first planted in Edna Valley, has long been producing California wines of a distinctive character – bold, complex and intriguing. Their winemaking philosophy is to simply reflect the natural characteristics of this remarkable estate.

Chamisal Vineyards, located in the Edna Valley appellation just south of Paso Robles, halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, has gained a reputation as one of the premier Chardonnay and Pinot regions in California. The coastal fog and breezes, combined with calcareous and volcanic soils, produces grapes with exceptional flavor and intensity, balanced by good acidity.

  • Origins: Chamisal was the very first vineyard planted in the Edna Valley appellation in 1973 by the Goss family, who named the estate for the fragrant Chamise, a native, white-flowered shrub that thrived there.
  • History: After a period of dormancy, the vineyard was purchased in the early 90s and renamed Domaine Alfred. In the fall of 2008, the current owners decided to take it back to its original name — Chamisal Vineyards.
  • Variety: Chamisal boasts 25 different clones of 5 different varietals: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, Pinot Gris, and Grenache.
  • Clonal Selection: Chamisal wines’ extraordinary flavor and complexity comes largely from the vineyard’s diverse clonal selection and the careful matching of vines and micro-climates.
