Truett Hurst was founded in 2007 in the heart of Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma County. Zinfandel and Petite Sirah vineyards, Dry Creek, five acres of garden and a vibrant tasting room made of eco-friendly materials are just some of the things that make it unique. Where else can you take in Coho Salmon, Steelhead trout, otters, ducks, sheep, herbs, olives, beneficial insect habitat, heirloom fruits and vegetables, all over a glass of delicious wine?
The story really begins in the vineyard, where they source fruit from the best hillside, old vine vineyards in Dry Creek. The style of wine, be it spicy and bold, or fruit driven and elegant, is dictated by the vineyard. Understanding this and allowing for the authentic translation of its terroir is paramount for making unforgettable wines. Small, open top fermentations, mixing the cap gently with punch downs and selection of only the best French and American oak are only part of the care that go into handcrafting their wines.
- Origins: The founding partners worked together at Fetzer Winery nearly thirty-five years ago when Director of Winemaking Paul Dolan hired Phil Hurst, fresh from UC Davis, to work as one of the winemakers.
- Family Ties: Years later, Phil would hire Paul's son, Heath, right out of college to work for him. Thirty years after that first meeting, Paul, Heath, Phil and Sylvia Hurst formed the Truett Hurst partnership.
- Vision: Truett Hurst was conceived to create handcrafted, world¬class wines sourced from vineyards using earth-friendly farming principles.
- Final Pieces: Mark De Meulanaere (CFO), Virginia Lambrix (winemaking) and the Hambrecht Family (vineyards & production) joined the Hursts and Dolan families to complete the vision of a well-balanced and integrated wine company.
