Mojon's Bench
A small, family-owned vineyard in the Alexander Valley, Mojon's Bench features estate grown wines inspired by the right bank of Bordeaux. Their Merlot, Cabernet Franc and blends boast soft, fine tannins, ripe fruit, and beguiling aromatics.
Stephen and Zoe Schwartz are caring family owners dedicated to producing the finest quality wines. Their small 2-1/2 acre vineyard located in Healdsburg produces Merlot and Cabernet Franc, which they blend in the style of the renowned wines from the Pomerol and St. Emilion regions of Bordeaux, France.
The bench of Mojon’s Bench has absolutely nothing to do with a place their cherished dog Mojon ever sat or slept on. Their vineyard is on an agricultural bench, perched above the Russian River in Sonoma County. This area of the celebrated Alexander Valley is famous for fine tannins, softer, less bitter and less astringent wines than those of neighboring Napa Valley. The vineyard is blessed by nature, with warm days, cool nights, rich gravelly loam soil, the basis for top Merlot terroirs. This unique combination of the right soil and the right climate accounts for the aromatic, ripe, full expression of Merlot at Mojon’s Bench’s Vineyards.
- Mojon: Mojon was the name of the Schwartz family's first dog, a legendary ball fetcher!
- Bench: Bench is an agricultural term for a flat piece of land above a body of water. The Schwartz family named their bench above the Russian River after their dog Mojon.
- Quality not Quantity: Mojon's Bench limits their production to only 500 cases of passionately made, estate-grown wine.
